Sipher is an upcoming blockchain RPG and MOBA game that combines competitive PvE and PvP gameplay on the blockchain. They recently shed some information about the Sipher Spaceships and their unique approach to the blockchain.
Sipher Spaceships
Sipher’s game developers announced the Sipher Spaceships’ upcoming launch, giving as much information to the public. They revealed that there would be seven available spaceships up for grabs.
Each of these seven spaceships will have its loot box containing all five building parts (Left side wing, right side wing, main carrier, set of weapons system, and thrusters) than can be collected weekly.
Each spaceship’s part will have different rarity levels, from common to legendary. You can also upgrade spaceship parts by scrapping or fusing three spaceship components of the same rarity level to create a higher tier component.
But a single spaceship can also be crafted using different rarity level components. So you can use any component you have as long as they’re for the same spaceship type for compatibility.
Mixing Off-Chain and On-Chain
The developers presented a somewhat brilliant and convenient strategy to tackle and reduce gas fees from blockchain transactions. And the specific details about the Sipher Spaceships and how they’ll function off-chain and on-chain were disclosed.
What does off-chain mean?
Off-chain simply refers to the traditional system or program that runs outside of the blockchain. Like how traditional games operate, traditional games run and operate via game servers that the developers control.
What does on-chain mean?
On-chain refers to the system that runs through the blockchain technology composed of smart contracts that grant actual ownership to its users and the community itself. This makes it possible to trade digital assets as NFTs and non-fungible tokens.
Off-Chain Functions
The developers have decided to take some of the main features and functions outside the blockchain to avoid paying gas fees. Almost every action performed on the blockchain will require you to pay gas fees. But thanks to this devised off-chain function,
Players will be able to:
- Claim and open their loot box
- Build their spaceship
- Scrap some parts by fusion to create a higher tiered component or
- And dismantle their spaceship, free of charge!
You can also keep your spaceships and other parts on the Sipher server for as long as you want, but the developers recommended that you mint them on the blockchain for actual ownership.
On-Chain Functions
On-chain functions will allow players to own their assets and trade them on NFT marketplaces by minting them. They also have the option to mint loot boxes and spaceship components to sell them on NFT marketplaces like OpenSea.
But for players to perform basic functionalities like scrapping, dismantling, and building their ship, they’ll need to bridge them back to the Sipher server via their website.
Using an L2 Solution: Polygon (MATIC) Network
If you didn’t know already, Sipher runs on the Ethereum blockchain. And we all know that Ethereum is known for its super high gas fees due to its popularity. But Sipher using Polygon as the Layer 2 solution reduces the gas fees needed to perform transitions on the blockchain.
How does it work?
Polygon is a blockchain of its own, and so is Ethereum. But unlike Ethereum’s blockchain, Polygon isn’t as congested and can perform more transactions per second. Therefore, transaction fees are less demanding and far cheaper.
Conclusion
So far, everything is looking great for Sipher, and I have high hopes for this game. But please note that this is not financial advice. And none of this is meant to encourage any investment into the game. We are here to provide helpful information for the general public.
