Illuvium is a brand new blockchain-based game set on an alien world where ferocious hybrid-looking creatures called Illuvials roam the land. Experience firsthand this beautiful world as you explore and hunt for Illuvials that you can evolve, upgrade, and fuse to create powerful beasts who’ll fight alongside you against other players and wild Illuvials.
You get to play as a human, exploring this majestic world, and catch yourself some Illuvials that synergize with each other to maximize their power. You can then train and form the mightiest team and strategize to defeat all foes that stand in your way.
Is Illuvium Free-to-Play?
Illuvium does have a free-to-play version. Its land is divided into multiple regions, and as a free player, you’ll get access to tier 0 regions. The free version allows you to get to know the game and Illuvials, and you’ll be able to experience the game without feeling like it’s been compromised.
But of course, if you want to dive deeper to discover the mysteries behind the game, you can opt-in for the paid tier regions. It comes with the benefit of being able to hunt Illuvials from higher tiers which will be stronger and more valuable than the ones that you can hunt in lower-tier regions.
In-game Currencies
Three currencies were mentioned on their website so it might get confusing, but I’ll explain each one without making it complicated. Here, we have Ethereum (ETH), ILV, and sILV.
ETH – is the primary currency inside the game, used for player-to-player transactions, since this game has a betting system where players could fight other players, putting their ETHs on the line. Outsiders or audiences can also spectate the match and place bets on their preferred side.
ILV – is an ERC20 token that runs on the Ethereum blockchain, representing Illuvium on the cryptocurrency market. This coin is not necessary for in-game experience but it has two main functions:
- Governance – Owning ILV gives you the power to vote and decide for the future development of the game.
- Staking – You can stake ILV to earn additional ILV as passive income.
sILV – is used for transactions that don’t involve other players, like travel fees and curing shards. You can earn sILV by staking ILV and through completed quests and rewards.
Play to Earn in Illuvium?
Ah yes, the juicy part. The play-to-earn aspect of this game might be its most exciting feature.
You can collect over 100 Illuvials that inhabit this alien planet, and all Illuvials can be traded as a non-fungible token (NFT). The stronger your Illuvial gets, the more worth it would have on the market. Rare Illuvials can be captured as well, and they, of course, come with greater stats which means that they’ll be even more valuable.
Aside from Illuvials, players can also craft armors and other items for their main (human) character and can also be sold as an NFT.
Final Note
This game is not open to the public just yet. Its official release will be in the first quarter of 2022 (between January to March). Judging from clips and shots that you can find on the internet and all the features that this game offers, Illuvium has great potential and could be another big competition of Axie Infinity. But of course, when talking about Axie Infinity, Thetan Arena seems to have begun to slowly take the lead when it comes to play-to-earn games.
The game design is just splendid! And that’s to be expected because the developers of Illuvium are no stranger to creating quality games. Seeing these types of games sparks a new fire for gamers and enthusiasts. With that said, the future of the gaming industry shines brighter than ever.
