Civitas is a play-to-earn 4X city builder NFT blockchain game where you and other players can own plots of lands you can customize and create infrastructures. And you’ll need to collaborate with other players for expansion and help your city transcend to new heights in terms of technology and economic progress.
The game utilizes Unreal Engine 5, which is software that’s famous for creating stunning graphics and visuals. And players can also access the game via a web browser client, allowing them access to all of the game’s desktop features, even for low-end PCs.
Civitas runs on the Ethereum blockchain, the reason being is Ethereum is one of the most, trusted blockchain due to the stability and security within its network. Blockchain games also give players complete control and ownership over their digital assets, which they’ve worked hard for and spent money on. And this is a revolutionary change in the gaming industry, whether mainstream developers and gamers like it or not.
The Group Behind the Project
Civitas is being developed by Directive Games, a studio created in 2014 by a group of veterans from multiple triple-A studios such as CCP Games, DICE, Weta Digital, Square Enis, Ubisoft, and Tencent. Thus, the individual experts behind Civitas helped create iconic and high-quality games that everyone adored for over three decades.
This is why their project is quickly becoming well-known because there is a solid team behind this project. Even Kieran Warwick, co-founder of Illuvium, has invested in Civitas. In addition, EthLizards, an NFT degen group, also secured their spot for investment. As well as Merit Circle, a renowned decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), also made an investment of $1,000,000 to collaborate with Civitas. And these are just a few of many companies Civitas has partnered with.
Moreover, Directive Games studio is a pioneer in Augmented Reality. And they lean their focus on creating multiplayer platforms supported by active communities with a goal in mind to incorporate both reality and virtual experience to create an entire platform that we can all explore. That being said, players will be able to enter the game in AR (Augmented Reality) using their phones (AR is only available on the mobile app), allowing players to discover and collect CITI tokens.
The Concept Behind Civitas
Now let’s talk about the game. What exactly is Civitas? And what does it mean? There are multiple dictionary definitions for the word “civitas.” But according to the team behind this project, Civitas was derived from the Latin word which means ‘citizenship’ or ‘citizen community.’
Which is the core concept of this metaverse as it combines different eras and civilizations in our human history. Each city will have a humble beginning with little tools to work with. And all players must work together to achieve technological heights and compete which other thriving cities for various goals.
Each city will have varying economies, and their collaboration within their region will reflect on the status or level of their civilization. And we’ll get to see a crossover of timelines where one civilization is a few hundred years ahead of the others in terms of technology, trades, and overall advancement.
Gameplay and Play-to-earn Mechanics
Civitas will be available on all platforms (pc and mobile), and there will be a multitude of ways for you to play and earn. First and foremost, owning land would be the biggest asset you can have as it allows you to accomplish different tasks and even monetize it in any way you want.
Plus, owning land within a city will give players an NFT that grants them citizenship. And this would allow access to community portals and interaction with your compatriots. Aside from land gameplays, you can also participate in community quests and compete in various mini-games for special rewards.
You can also explore other cities and regions where you can participate in different events, make friends, and do virtually anything you want. And speaking of other cities, Civitas also plans to have a PvP mode where cities can wage wars against each other. Everyone within their city must cooperate in supplying war materials and all the needed resources to strengthen their offense and defense.
But they plan to have a different approach for PvP. The developers will focus on incentives and rewards for everyone who participates. Unlike other games where you wake up from a deep slumber after a long day of work, only to find that your entire city burned down to the ground a few hours later. And that isn’t a good feeling at all. It makes players want to quit. So they want to make it less punishing.
It’ll be a great touch for the game because a healthy level of competition will surely drive players to be more engrossed in the game if done right. Since everyone is looking for some action and a surge of adrenaline, going in that direction seems to shine the game positively.
The CITI token
Civitas’ governance coin is an ERC-20 token known as $CITI. Which also serves as an in-game currency used for purchases and other transactions. Players can earn CITI tokens by completing quests, AR mini-games, and subDAO governance.
Furthermore, players can also earn passive income through staking. And they can build infrastructures that’ll generate passive resources that they can use to craft in-game items and other NFTs that they can use or sell on the marketplace.
Conclusion
Civitas is set to release sometime in 2023, which shows that it’s still in its early stage of development. And the developers haven’t even published their roadmap yet. However, many players, prominent groups, and investors are already looking forward to this promising new metaverse project, which could become the next big shot in the blockchain space.
