Axie Infinity is a fantasy world where enchanting creatures roam free. It’s an NFT blockchain game that launched in March 2018 and became hugely popular in 2021. Its play-to-earn mechanics became a real drive for its success as players can earn good profits from it. It was even recorded that Axie Infinity generated over $700 million in sales in just thirty days!
There are countless unique Axies with varying stats that players can collect, breed, trade, and battle. Axies also have unique body parts associated with special skills. Each Axies have different elemental affinities that have advantages and disadvantages against other elements. That’s because Axie Infinity is heavily inspired by Pokemon as well.
How It’s Played
Players would need to purchase at least 3 Axies to form a team, which would cost around $300 to $600. They can also breed them and resell them on the marketplace. If one can’t afford to buy their own Axie, they can apply as scholars and borrow Axies from managers. Profits earned will then be split, depending on their agreement.
Players battle wild Axies and other players as well. They can also earn SLP tokens by completing quests, participating in the PvP battle arena, and so much more!
The Axie Origin’s Release
Axie Infinity announced that they’d release Axie Origin with improved graphics, gameplay, and battle mechanics. It’ll be all about enhancing the overall experience for players. The expected release date of Axie’s origin will be around Q1 of 2022, after season 20 ends.
The Axie Origin update will include three free starter Axies. This means that Axie Infinity will be open for everyone who wants to try and have fun with the game. However, the free Axies cannot be traded as an NFT, and players cannot earn SLP tokens with them.
They plan to start with an initial Alpha launch that’ll be available to everyone worldwide. The goal is to get as much feedback as possible from the community before the official launch.
No progress will be saved during the Alpha launch. Everything will be back to how it was before the initial Alpha launch. Players won’t be able to earn SLP and AXS tokens.
New Features and Updates
Axie Infinity plans to throw a big update, but the information that we have right now is limited. Some of the features and updates that could be implemented are as follows.
- Power-ups – Players will be able to craft power-ups and gain an advantage against their enemies. This new system will be one of the burning mechanisms of SLP to help control the token supply and preserve its value.
- Rage Mechanic – Many people speculate that there will be changes in Axie Infinity’s Critical Damage system. A new Rage bar will be added, and it has to be filled before Axie’s can do critical damage towards their opponents. This will vary depending on the type of Axie.
- Eyes and Ears – The update will include added abilities for Axies’ eyes and ears. Back then, only its four other body parts (horn, mouth, back, and tail) influenced fights as each body part possessed unique capabilities of its own. With the added ability for Axies’ eyes and ears, players will have more combinations to try.
- Visual Effects – Minor improvements will be added. This includes Axie’s special animations when doing special moves and an enhanced facial expression when engaging.
Final Thoughts
Axie’s popularity has gone through the roof. Many investors, managers, and scholars make money out of this game. What’s next for Axie Infinity? As the months’ pass, more and more blockchains games with a similar play-to-earn concept are starting to appear. Meaning more competition will come, dividing the attention of the limited number of players on the crypto and blockchain space. This could be one of their steps to stay ahead.
