Star Atlas, built on Solana’s blockchain network, is a brand new Metaverse project that will bring a whole new gaming experience to the table. Take on intergalactic adventures, explore and conquer the stars, collect and trade NFTs, and join factions for dominance!
It utilizes Unreal Engine 5, creating stunning cinematic graphics. The game’s final release date is still unknown and unlike other games that have an official release date followed by updates, Star Atlas is divided and released by Stages.
When Will the Game be Released?
They finally broke the silence when they announced its first mini-game called SCORE (Ship Commissions on Remote Expeditions). It was released very recently on December 16, 2021, and this will allow users to finally make use of their NFT ships.
Basically, this is a staking feature of the game where ships will be sent for expeditions to earn tokens, and players will need to fund their ships for the food supply, fuel, and ammo. All the supplies needed will be readily available on the Marketplace.
The Galactic Marketplace
All in-game assets are NFTs (including ships and individual scraps) that can be collected within the game. Which, of course, can be traded on the Galactic Marketplace. Powered by Serum DEX, built on Solana, it enables a safe transaction between players.
It also has the power to perform over 50,000 transactions per second, ensuring super-fast exchange speed and almost non-existent fees. It’s also important to note that players would need to connect their Solana digital wallet (i.e. Phantom wallet) to use the Marketplace.
And of course, let’s not forget the 2 in-game currencies:
- ATLAS – Burnable in-game currency used for peer-to-peer transactions and to purchase goods and services within the game.
- POLIS – Storer of value and a governance token, owning POLIS will let you have a say on future developments for Star Atlas.
What to Expect In-game
As mentioned above, players can explore, mine, collect NFTs, and more. Every star that can be seen is a place that can be visited, and each star or planet will be rich in resources that can be harvested. But since you can’t be in several places at the same time, you can make use of explorer drones to check on potential resource-rich planets for mining.
Furthermore, you can choose to either live comfortably in space and enjoy or venture out into the unknown. There will be safe zones and end zones in deep space, and assets that get destroyed in the end zones will be permanently lost.
But you might still want to consider since the more risk you take, the better possible reward you can get. Who knows, you might find some legendary relic that’s worth twice or thrice the risk.
The 3 Main Factions
Three main factions are fighting over dominance, and you are free to choose which side you’ll be on.
- Mud Territory (Governed by mankind) – They are born adventurers with an overbearing thirst for exploration to discover untouched paradise in space.
- Oni Region (Consortium of alien races) – They seek war and glory, obsessed with total domination. They aim to claim more land and stars for greater power.
- Ustur Sector (Controlled by sentient androids) – Formed from generations of technological evolution. Building is their passion and a way to express themselves.
There are different roles as well for every faction that you can choose, you can be a builder, landowner, commander, fighter, and so much more. So, which side will you choose?
Author’s Note
Humanity’s technological development in the gaming industry is boundless, and so is the competition. It’s one of the main factors that accelerates progress. If you would look back a few decades ago, you’ll see that it all started with black and white pixelated games. Now, look how far we’ve come.
It’s exciting to think about what the future has in store for us. I guess our imagination is our limit, and we all know that it’s limitless! With that said, we can expect similar games to appear and hope that they live up to their hype once released.
