Cryptosnake is a blockchain-based play-to-earn game inspired by the classic game “Snake” from the 90s. And man, it sure brings back memories! Just like how the game worked back in the era of Nokia, players will have to control the snake’s direction using 4 four keys (up, down, left, and right) and eat as many pixels as possible while avoiding obstacles.
Cryptosnake brings new life to the old snake game that we once loved. And by bringing this game to the blockchain, players can once again enjoy its nostalgic experience and earn money simultaneously.
Gameplay
First and foremost, you’ll need to buy a snake to play in the arena. Players can buy a snake egg that can be hatched in 1 to 14 days, depending on the type of snake. And there are five main snake characters that you can choose from:
Five main characters
- Black Mamba
- Dasypeltis
- Viper
- Python
- Anaconda
We won’t go into much detail, but know that each snake is significantly more expensive than the other, and the more expensive the snake is, the more perks and benefits it will have.
The ultimate goal is to eat as much food (pixel coins) as they can while avoiding certain obstacles during the allotted time. And for each pixel coin they eat, their length and speed will gradually increase as well.
Players can also end the game at any given time by pressing the “End Game” button. A game could also end if players crash into one of the artifacts called “Mystery Box.” The game would then decide the outcome randomly, win or lose. There are other artifacts that, when crashed onto, will deduct pixel tokens from the total token the snake has eaten. And some artifacts that have benefits can also be collected.

- Shadow Snake
- Snake hunter
- Trophy
- Rainbow unicorn
- Snake charmer

Earning Mechanics
Players can earn by either staking their snake (passive income) or playing in the game arena. Staked snakes can earn an annual percentage yield of 30%, and more expensive snakes earn even more APY. (Note that the Black Mamba snake can only make an annual percentage yield of 15%.)
Cryptosnakes’ protocol will add pixel coins to the arena every day. And these pixel coins are equivalent to 20% of the sum of all purchased snakes from the previous day. And the price for each pixel coin would depend on the current number of players and the type of snake used in-game.
Withdrawal Mechanics
Players can withdraw their funds in one of two ways. Either by sacrificing their snake or using a disposable artifact (see list of artifacts above.) When sacrificing or destroying a snake to withdraw funds, it needs to be put to sleep for 48 hours, and within 48 hours, players can change their minds and wake up the snake. But after 48 hours, players can proceed to destroy the snake, and the process can not be reversed.
Final Thoughts
I know, it’s a lot to take in. An entire article can be made for every part of this game’s mechanics. Although I must say, overall, it’s a well-thought-out and balanced game. Just know that this is not financial advice. And if you’re considering investing, please do so at your own risk and be sure to back it up with a ton of research.
