Square Enix, a Japanese game publishing and development business, has entered into a partnership with The Sandbox to include one of its IPs on the metaverse-based network. The Sandbox will contain aspects from Dungeon Siege, one of the company’s oldest intellectual assets, allowing users to incorporate these elements into their custom-made adventures.
Square Enix Joins Forces With The Sandbox
Square Enix, a conventional gaming business, has announced a partnership with the metaverse-based platform The Sandbox to bring one of its intellectual properties to the virtual world. The company’s next IP will be Dungeon Siege, an RPG experience that has sold over 1.7 million copies and inspired a series of sequels.
The partnership will involve the Dungeon Siege being integrated into the metaverse in two ways. Square Enix will develop an interactive piece of land on the platform for users to enjoy experiences that include Dungeon Siege features and recognize how these aspects may be integrated to create their own stories.
The second integration will include voxel features based on the Dungeon Siege environment allowing users to construct their own experiences utilizing the native Voxedit and Game Maker utilities. Users will be able to design their micro-worlds without writing programming in this manner.
“Dungeon Siege has always been about inspiring adventure, and entering The Sandbox metaverse to empower players to craft their adventures opens an exciting new chapter for the franchise.”
Hideaki Uehara, Square Enix’s Director of Business Development
Uehara went on to say that the firm was thrilled to see the property come to life in The Sandbox, thanks to the ingenuity of its fans.
Getting a Glimpse of the Metaverse
This is Square Enix’s first effort into a metaverse-based platform. However, the corporation has already stated that it was considering a strong entry into blockchain and play-to-earn (P2E) experiences with NFT features.
The business’s president, Yosuke Matsuda, stated in a new year’s letter that the company will actively invest in blockchain gaming and that self-sustaining token economies might fuel game growth.
Other game firms have previously collaborated with The Sandbox to bring their intellectual property to the platform. This is also true for Ubisoft, which added its Rabbids intellectual property to the platform in February.
