The ApeCoin DAO, the group behind the cryptocurrency ApeCoin, is looking at a new way to use their token in the real world. They’re thinking about turning part of a hotel in Bangkok into a Bored Ape-themed space.
A DAO member called DeSmart came up with this idea. They want to use $356,000 worth of APE tokens to change some rooms in a downtown Bangkok hotel.
The plan includes making Bored Ape-themed rooms, an APE-themed bar, and a swimming pool.
This isn’t just about making a cool-looking hotel. The plan has some benefits for people who own ApeCoin. For example, the hotel would give away 50 free nights to ApeCoin holders.
Each holder could get one free night. To get this, they’d need to be a member of the ApeCoin forum, have more than 1 APE, and share a tweet about their stay.
The hotel would also share money with the ApeCoin DAO. For the first year after the themed rooms are done, half of the money they make would go back to the DAO.
Another big part of the plan is that the hotel would take ApeCoin as payment. This would show how ApeCoin can be used in the real world, not just online.
DeSmart has already talked to a hotel in the Khlong San area of Bangkok. The hotel owners like the idea and want to work with the ApeCoin DAO to make it happen.
So far, the idea seems popular with ApeCoin holders. In the current vote, 90% of people support the plan. The voting will end on August 1, 2024.
If the plan goes ahead, the most expensive parts will be the rooftop bar and the swimming pool. These would cost about 100,000 APE tokens, which is worth about $87,000 at current prices.
This hotel plan comes at a time when ApeCoin’s value has dropped a lot. It’s now worth $0.85, which is much less than its highest price of $26.70 in 2022. But the DAO is still looking for new ways to use ApeCoin.
